Competition?

Bill Gates created a software framework within which all sorts of PROGRAMMES can operate. That’s what is called an ‘OPERATING system’.

What I have created is a framework within which all sorts of numerical and digital DATA can be processed. It can be called a ‘KNOWLEDGE system’ or ‘interpretation framework’, within which ‘portals of investigation’ lead to the analysis and visualization of multi-dimensional data.

Data Knowledge Interpretation

When treating digital images as multi-dimensional data, their re-visualization leads to new insights and the quantification of qualitative measures.

There are other methods of forecasting time series, but none are as generic as mine. And since there are no academic agreements on how to measure the quality of forecasts, I have developed my own set of measures – one of the subsets of ‘3d metric qualitative measures’.

These kind of qualitative measures apply in other domains, too:

  • trading for the Ethical Investment Network,
  • and images, for the analysis of components and the purpose of ‘pattern recognition’.

In fact, that is the only area where there is one professor at MIT who is on my heels. See Pattern recognition technique makes short work of image analysis.

But pattern recognition is one of the subsets that fits into my overall framework of:

  • visualizing multivariate and multi-dimensional data
  • treating digital images as a subset of multi-dimensional data
  • quantifying images as a whole
  • measuring the qualities of image components by quantifying shapes, objects, patterns, colours and contrasts.

However, when you google for “multidimensional data visualization”, you will find references to software such as:

  • XGobi – a data visualization system for viewing high-dimensional data
  • ViSta – the Visual Statistics System

Texts and powerpoint slides on the web also illustrate that the key difference between the 3d metric approach and existing software providers lies in:

  • my software methods are the core processes of a multi-tier expert system
  • human expertise is to be embedded via vocabularies for interpretation and data bases for quantification
  • in my case, the mathematics underlying the software is conceptually ‘out of the box’, i.e. new and different.

That means not just incremental innovation, but a genuine paradigm shift in the definition of Thomas Kuhn and his book The Structure of Scientific Revolutions.

Or, in the words of explorer Alexander von Humboldt:

“Humboldt had a horror of the single fact, believing that in order to explore any one thing, one needs to approach it from all sides… Every discovery opens up the imagination further, stimulating more discovery: it enlarges the sphere of ideas, excites a taste for investigation, while the creation of new instruments of observation increases the intelligence.”
